Price Plates was created by The UK’s Original PlateSpotterUK, the UK’s largest and most established private number plate online community. We’ve been connecting number plate owners and enthusiasts for years helping them buy, trade, showcase and sell their plates. Now we’ve decided to bring you your very own private plate marketplace allowing you to deal with each other directly. We’re pioneers in our field and offer unrivalled marketing packages that can promote your number plate to our 70,000 (and counting) authentic and passionate number plate fans!
It’s simple. Click here (please link this to the advertising packages page) to view our packages, choose which one is right for you and have your advert live within minutes. Remember to add keywords/tags to make it even easier for buyers to find.
We recommend using PayPal to complete the transaction as it offers peace of mind to both the buyer and seller but you may decide on what works best for you.
Yes, you’re in total control. To change your asking price just log into your account and ‘edit details’. If you’ve made a typo in your registration number, then please drop us an email to hello@priceplates.co.uk letting us know and we’ll contact you.
After you have received your payment you will need to transfer the registration to the buyer. If the number plate is held on a V750 certificate of entitlement or a V778 retention certificate please sign and date sections 1 & 6 and post to the buyer using a tracked delivery service. If the buyer wants to transfer it to their vehicle immediately, just provide a scanned copy or details held on the certificate and they’ll be able to do this via the DVLAs online service here (please link to http://tiny.cc/rov8jz) . If the registration is currently held on a vehicle you will need to apply to retain it first.
You can do this via the DVLA here (please link to http://tiny.cc/4qv8jz) or print and fill out this V317 application form (please link to http://tiny.cc/quv8jz) to post to the DVLA. The fee for this is £80.¬ The DVLA will then post you the V778 retention certificate which will be valid for 10 years. This can take up to 10 days but it’s usually quicker.
You can stipulate in your advert whether DVLA fees are included or not. We highly recommend including all fees as this makes your advert more attractive to buyers.
This means that you are unable to take part in the registrations transfer scheme – sorry!
Unless you wish to purchase a personalised registration to display, your vehicle will revert back to its original registration which will be issued by the DVLA.
Most other dealers will advertise “for free” but add on a chunky commission which overinflates the price. The result? Buyers being put off and your registration sitting on their site for years.
We charge a miniscule fraction in comparison to the commission’s dealers add on and we have a dedicated online social marketing team that will market your registration across our social platforms
Simply log in to your account and click “Delete Add”. Your registration will automatically be removed and your payments will stop.
No, it is very important that you do not do this as you will automatically lose the right to the registration once it has been scrapped.
Simply find the registration you want and contact the seller via the contact details they’ve provided.
After you’ve agreed on a price with seller, we recommend using PayPal to complete the transaction as it offers peace of mind to both buyers and sellers but you may decide on what works best for you.
You can request that the seller provide you with details held on the registrations certificate and you’ll be able to transfer it to your car instantaneously by using the DVLAs online service here (please link to http://tiny.cc/rov8jz). This can be done daily from 7am-7pm and the transfer is done in real time and DVLA records are updated immediately). If you’re not ready to assign the registration right now then ask the seller to post you the certificate via tracked delivery.
We’d be happy to help. Just drop us an email to hello@priceplates.co.uk
Absolutely not. When you purchase a registration, if you don’t wish to assign it immediately, you’ll have until the expiry date shown on the registrations certificate to register it to a vehicle. Please note that the registration must be assigned before the expiry date or you will lose it.
That’s a 100% ¬no no. It is an illegal offence under the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulation 1971 to alter, mis-represent or mis-space characters on a number plate. Please read up on displaying your plates here (I have sent you one blog post relating to this if you could please link).
Personalised registrations can be assigned to any vehicle that requires a MoT or HGT Certificate (motorbikes, cars, lorries, motorhomes etc.).
The general rule is: You cannot make your vehicle appear younger than it is.
This shouldn’t be a problem. Just ask your car dealership.
When you assign your new registration, the previous registration will revert back to the DVLA.
Only the DVLA and the police hold this sort of information and will not divulge this to anyone as it is covered by the Data Protection act. Many number plates resurface on the market at some point so it’s a good idea to keep checking back.
Yes. As soon as you have switched your plates over please inform your insurance company before driving off!
